BARBED FITTING TECHNICAL TCE

🧩 Materials & Construction

  • Materials:

    • Polypropylene (PP) – black or natural, UV-resistant, food-grade possible

    • Nylon (white/black) or Polyethylene (PE) in some lines

  • Barb Design: Multiple barbs—typically triple or quadruple—for secure hose retention when used with clamp

2. 🌡️ Temperature & Pressure Ratings

MaterialTemperature RangeMax Pressure
Polypropylene–40 to +100 °C (–40 to 200 °F) ~125 psi (8–9 bar)
Nylon / PE–45 to +82 °C (–50 to 180 °F)up to ~125 psi (8.6 bar)
Chemical-Resistant PP–9 to +121 °C (15 to 250 °F)120 psi (~8.3 bar)
Reducing Tee (PP)4 bar (~58 psi)

3. 📏 Sizes & Configurations

  • Tee (Barb to Barb):

    • Full sizes: 3/16″–1″ ID (≈ 4–25 mm); reducing sizes like 3/8″→1/4″, 1/2″→3/8″ 90° Elbow:

    • Full sizes (PP/nylon/PE): 1/4″–1½″; reducing elbows e.g., 1/2″→1/4″, 1/2″→3/8″

  • V‑Shape / Y‑Splitter:

    • Male threaded base (in your image) – typical PP with ¾″ male NPT BSP base, two angled barbs (∼G½″ × 2 × 3/8″)

  • Barbed Adapters:

    • Male: Barb × male thread (10-32 UNF / ¼″ NPT etc.) – e.g., Ø1.6 mm–4.3 mm ID tube, threads seal without gasket

    • Female: Barb × female cap – similar design but with internal thread

  • Couplers / Unions:

    • Straight barb-to-barb couplers for extending hose length

  • End Caps:

    • Simple barb end closures for sealing unused hose lengths

4. 🛠️ Installation & Performance

  • Hose ID compatibility: Yes – barbs are sized for proper tube IDs (e.g., B80: 1.6 mm; B85: 3.2 mm; B86: 4.3 mm)

  • Secure connections: Use hose clamps for >50 psi; single barb plus rib for 75+ psi in nylon

  • Threaded ends: Male/female adapters may be sealed with PTFE tape, thread itself often gasketless in precision-molded PP

5. ✅ Applications

  • Low- to medium-pressure fluid systems (water, chemicals, air)

  • Agriculture, irrigation, beverage/food grade (with FDA-compliant materials)

  • Pneumatic, laboratory, or cooling circuits

  • Chemical-resistant applications using specific PP or PVDF variants

📘 Notes & Recommendations

  • Always match hose ID to barb size.

  • Use hose clamps above ~50 psi.

  • For threaded adapters, a PTFE sealant or tape may be needed.

  • Support UV & chemical exposures by choosing black PP or PVDF variants
